@jacqueline.russell and I were thrilled and honored to meet with the “standing room only” group of CS educators on Thursda at the CSTA 2024 conference as we shared the opportunities available in Visual Studio Code for Education.
We heard you loud and clear - you that students now have a quick-to-code, secure, free, and online environment based on pedagogy, best practices, and ease of use. Using “Projects” you have a new home for your code assignments and opportunities for students to share their code and publish their websites.
We valued your feedback about adding more Python libraries and other languages, support for an educator dashboard, connections to your LMS, providing editing and authoring tools, and increased theme support. While each of these are in our roadmap, the group provided great depth and increased focus for our team! We can’t wait to show you what we have in store next…
From our session, we shared out the following key resources and links:
- Session Presentation: Visual Studio Code for Education and Future-Ready Skills in CS Classrooms.pptx (21.4 MB)
- Spin the Reels Python Game
- Spin the Reels HTML/JavaScript/CSS Game
- Microsoft Booth Links (VS Code for Education, MakeCode, Minecraft Education, TEALS, GitHub Education): vscode_edu's Campsite.bio
And invited participants to take these next steps:
