On the Road at CSTA 2024

We’re getting really excited for CSTA in Las Vegas next week! If you’re looking for new a computer science curriculum, an opportunity to enhance your lessons, or a new home for your projects, we’ve got you covered!

Join us for an interactive session at CSTA and explore how VS Code for Education can make computer science engaging and fun for your students:

  • When: Thursday, July 18, 2024 at 9:00am
  • Where: Summit Ballroom 207-208
  • Presenters: Jacqueline Russell and Adam Smeets
  • What: In this session, we’ll explore the Intro to Python and Web Development curriculum available and get hands-on building a Python and Web project together (so bring your laptop to participate). By the end of the session, attendees will be familiar with the platform, and have access to free resources, and professional development opportunities.
  • PowerPoint Presentation: Visual Studio Code for Education and Future-Ready Skills in CS Classrooms.pptx (21.4 MB)

We would love to discuss how to bring this free, zero-setup, online computer science education platform, including integrated curriculum and a sandbox coding environment to your school or district. Find us at Booth #331 to try out VS Code for Education, grab some swag or meet with a member of the VS Code for Education team.

Thanks for stopping by the Microsoft booth, @alberto.sweeney! It was great chatting with you about your work during the pilot preview. Keep up the great work now that Visual Studio Code for Education is out of preview, and you ramp up for the new school year!

@jacqueline.russell and I were thrilled and honored to meet with the “standing room only” group of CS educators on Thursda at the CSTA 2024 conference as we shared the opportunities available in Visual Studio Code for Education.

We heard you loud and clear - you  that students now have a quick-to-code, secure, free, and online environment based on pedagogy, best practices, and ease of use. Using “Projects” you have a new home for your code assignments and opportunities for students to share their code and publish their websites.

We valued your feedback about adding more Python libraries and other languages, support for an educator dashboard, connections to your LMS, providing editing and authoring tools, and increased theme support. While each of these are in our roadmap, the group provided great depth and increased focus for our team! We can’t wait to show you what we have in store next…

From our session, we shared out the following key resources and links:

And invited participants to take these next steps:
