In the January 2024 update, we’re excited to launch Immersive Reader integration across all coding activities and courses. Immersive Reader is an inclusively designed tool that makes reading and writing more accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Immersive Reader was originally designed to meet the needs of readers with dyslexia and dysgraphia; however, anyone who wants to make reading on their device easier can benefit from this tool!
Entering Reader Mode in Immersive Reader will simplify the page you’re on by hiding distracting pop-ups and buttons, leaving you with just the important parts: textual and visual content. Once you enter Reader Mode, start using tools like Read Aloud, Text preferences, Grammar tools and Reading preferences. To learn more about Immersive Reader, check out the Accessibility unit in our Getting Started with VS Code for EDU course.
We also added a new question type to “Check Your Understanding” assessments, called reflections. These are open-ended questions with no correct response, but are intended to encourage learners to reflect on their learning. In addition to bug squashing, we continued working on new features to support a new course offering that’s coming soon.
But wait, there’s more! We’ve squashed over 110 bugs to ensure a smoother experience. This round of updates includes bug resolutions, enriched educational content, and further enhancements to accessibility, profile management, and assessment tools. We’re eager to hear from you, so don’t hesitate to send us your thoughts via our Give Feedback form!
We extend our deepest gratitude to the extraordinary educators and learners who have contributed to our progress. Your astute feedback and eagle-eyed bug detection have been critical in advancing the experience. Your ongoing support is greatly appreciated!
