Today, we want to celebrate and appreciate all the amazing teachers around the world who are transforming education and shaping the future of their students. Happy World Teachers’ Day!
World Teachers’ Day is an international holiday that recognizes the importance and value of teachers in society. It was proclaimed by UNESCO in 1994, to commemorate the adoption of the UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers in 1966. This document set the standards for the rights and responsibilities of teachers, as well as their initial preparation, continuing education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions1.
Every year, World Teachers’ Day has a different theme that highlights a relevant issue or challenge facing the teaching profession. This year, the theme is “The Teachers We Need for the Education We Want: The Global Imperative to Reverse the Teacher Shortage”. This theme reflects the urgent need to address the global teacher shortage, which has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, low salaries, poor working conditions, and lack of support and recognition[1]. According to UNESCO, we need 69 million more teachers by 2030 to achieve universal primary and secondary education[2].
At Visual Studio Code for Education, we believe that teachers are essential for creating a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable world. We also believe that teachers deserve the best tools and resources to support their work and professional development. That’s why we created Visual Studio Code for Education, a free and open-source code editor that helps teachers and students learn, create, and collaborate with code. Whether you teach computer science, web development, data science, or any other subject that involves coding, Visual Studio Code for Education can help you enhance your teaching and learning experience.
We are constantly working to improve Visual Studio Code for Education based on your feedback and suggestions. We want to make it easier for you to access, use and leverage Visual Studio Code for Education in your classroom or online. We also want to provide you with more features, tutorials, and examples that can help you teach (and learn) various coding languages and frameworks. We are always happy to hear from you and learn from your stories and best practices.
On this World Teachers’ Day, we want to say thank you for choosing Visual Studio Code for Education as your coding companion. We hope that it helps you achieve your teaching and learning goals and inspires you to explore new possibilities with code. You are the teachers we need for the education we want!
