In the last week or so I have started getting a “Failed to save curriculum” error and when I close the course and try to open it again I get this:
Unable to open repository. GraphqlResponseError: Request failed due to following response errors:
- API rate limit already exceeded for user ID 15657148.. Would you like to open another repository?
I’m signed in to VSCode for Edu and to GitHub in the same browser profile and I only started getting this recently. It usually recovers eventually but why is this happening now? Has authentication changed, am I getting the unauthenticated limit of 60 commits per hour? Help!
OK I tried signing out of everything - GitHub, VSCode for Edu - and closed the tabs and signed in, first GitHub then VSC4E and the rate limit error went away.
Edit This happens when I come back to a VSCode for Edu authoring session after a long break. I’m signed in to VSC4E and I can still edit the curriculum but I get the “Failed to save curriculum” error and the API rate limit exceeded if I close and re-open VSC4E. I guess GitHub considers me unauthenticated because of a credential expired or something.
Workaround - if returning to VSC4E after a long break, sign out and back in.
Fix: Microsoft need to sign authors out of VSC4E if they have been idle for long enough for the authentication to GitHub to have timed out!
